Benzo and Alcohol Detox in London
Alcohol & Benzo Detox in London. ALCOHOL & Benzodiazepine Detoxification & Stabilisation Treatment. The duration is Normally 14 -21 days, depending on the amount of Benzo’s being used by the client prior to admission. If the client is using other substances as well, please click the appropriate link in the menu.
Initially we use a detoxification medication for the Alcohol detox. This will cover both Alcohol and Benzodiazepine withdrawal. Once the detox medication for Alcohol is completed, we will assess whether there is a need for a further Benzodiazepine detox.
Other method – Alcohol & Benzo Detox
If required, we would continue the Benzo detoxification using other medications to safeguard against Benzodiazepine withdrawal seizures. The client will be assessed pre- admission and then again prior to commencing Detox, to determine the appropriate medication dose, based on the client’s withdrawal symptoms, height, weight and how much Alcohol is normally used.
If there is a medical reason for not using our usual medication (e.g.the client has liver failure) our G.P’s will use suitable alternatives. In addition to the above, all clients admitted for an Alcohol and Benzo detox will be prescribed the following;
Medication on a daily basis for 5 days followed by Vitamin B co strong daily for the remainder of the detox period and for 2 weeks after discharge.
Pregnancy
All females are pregnancy- tested prior to any dose of any medication being given. If a female client is pregnant our G.P’s will be consulted prior to commencing any medications. A letter from the client’s Consultant Obstetrician will be required to confirm that it is safe to commence detoxification prior to the client’s admission.
